I've been to Amsterdam too, and one thing to keep in mind is that Holland is a much smaller country than the United States, with few major cities. If drugs were legalized in the whole U.S., even if this did attract more drug addicts to the country, they would be spread throughout many major cities, so I don't think there would be the concentration of addicts that there is in Amsterdam. If, say, Las Vegas alone decided to legalize all drugs, we'd be more likely to experience the convening of drug addicts that you describe.

I waver on this. On one hand, I think drugs should be legal because you should have control over your own body and there is no reason for alcohol to be legal while pot isn't. But, I've been to Amsterdam and it was kind of scary how bad the drug problem seemed, with crackheads everywhere. The drug addicts of the world convene there. I guess if every country legalized drugs at the exact same moment, I'd be totally for it. I'm not positive otherwise, though.
