I vividly remember when I attended a scientific conference there was the 2nd intifada in full-swing. During a coffee break, we (a group of scientists and academics of all races - except native americans) talked about what was happening in the occupied West Bank. Every one (about 11 in total) was criticizing Israel. But when I well-known Jewish Scientist joined in, every one stopped talking about the middleeast, instead, we suddenly shifted our topics to the good weather we had at the time.
